The Ecoworks Light Garden

At Nottingham’s amazing Light Night in the cold winter of 2011, Ecoworks, one of Nottingham’s leading environmental groups, teamed up with V3 power and the Nottingham Energy Partnership to fulfill one special aim:
To share the night with the people of Nottingham, and together transform a small part
of the city-centre into a vibrant Light Garden, buzzing with energy, colour
and the promise of spring.
Using long exposure photography and a set of colourful, wind-up torches, people were able to draw amazing gardens literally made of light. Everything from the torches, to the music and the projector were powered using renewable energy. People drew gardens full of flowers and sunshine, birds and trees- all the things that winter and the city conspire to deny us.

The night was inspirational- nearly 1000 people discovered the dark and inconspicuous tunnel by the galleries of justice, a shadowy part of the centre, notable tonight by the buzz of energy and light pulsating from within, and the hand-made, solar-powered sign hanging eagerly in the entrance.
Borne from the creativity of the people, this tunnel had become Nottingham’s first ever light garden.
